Montebelo Golf Course
Montebelo Golf Course
Montebelo Golf Course is the pride of northern Portugal, a mountain retreat that showcases the natural beauty and drama of the Douro region. Designed by Mark Stilwell and Malcolm Kenyon, this championship course opened in 1997 and remains one of Portugal’s most scenic inland layouts. Set between the Serra da Estrela and Caramulo mountain ranges, it offers sweeping views of valleys, pine forests, and distant peaks that shift in color as the day unfolds.
The layout follows the contours of the land, weaving through rolling terrain that demands precision and creativity. Each of its three nine hole loops named Caramulo, Estrela, and Buçaco offers its own rhythm and character. Fairways are framed by native vegetation, and the greens are subtly contoured, rewarding thoughtful strategy over power.
Cypress and Salt curates Montebelo experiences that combine mountain golf with refined Portuguese hospitality. Guests enjoy elegant stays at Montebelo Viseu Hotel, private dining inspired by regional cuisine, curated tastings at nearby Dão vineyards, and guided excursions through Viseu’s historic villages. Montebelo is golf elevated by nature, where serenity meets sophistication.
